Day 19: Hang out day/packing day/Saying goodbye

Monday, June 18, 2012

Goodbyes were said to the 1 1/2 week crew this morning at 4 am. Jeremy was one of the ones that got up for their send-off. I couldn't get my body to move so I didn't get to say bye. This is the day of "lasts" so everyone decided to hang out with people for the last time, eat at their favorite places for the last time, and take pictures of things as they do them since it will be the last time. It all started with our last breakfast of omelets, boiled eggs, cereal, bread, and euro cream/nutella. Then some of the team went to villages to see their friends and to meet their families, while others hung out in Suhareke with their friends. The leaders were busy running errands and making last minute purchases (here and in Prizren) for the 5 month girls (new fridge, new toaster oven, new door locks, router, plastic to cover some furniture that they put under the deck, and a conversation with a carpenter to make a bunk bed for when Sam gets here).

Everyone got to go to the silversmith to pick up their jewelry today too. I love my ring and bracelet.

Pretty much everyone chose to eat at Kulla for lunch. When Morgan, Jeremy, Valdete and I got there, there were two other groups there from our team. Then Berat and Evan got back from Prizren and joined us. I love their spaghetti or macaroni carbonara. It's delicious. Right as we finished eating Morgan said that she could go for some ice cream. One who thinks about desserts constantly is my kind of friend! We ended up packing and relaxing instead though.

Later, Jeremy, Gillian, Lois, and I went to Lab Com and the silversmith again. Then we went to the new restaurant we went to yesterday. At 8 pm we had our last team meeting about the early morning details and said our last Kosovar goodbyes. Berat had shirts made for me, Morgan and Valdete to remind us of our joke about the onion because we didn't realize putting an onion on someone's door was black magic.

Georgia here we come...
