Day 18: Hang out/packing/debriefing day

Sunday, June 17, 2012

It was yet another hang out day in Suhareke. We ate breakfast and were given crepes again. The hotel staff is so wonderful! After breakfast we had Grace: Suhareke service #2. I wanted to have another day with Valdete before we left, so we went to Oxxo for some coffee/ice cream in the morning and stayed for an hour or two. I've really enjoyed getting to know and work alongside her during the camp this year. As we were walking back to the hotel, we saw some of our team (Foresters, Jeremy, Josh, Ben, and Cassie) and asked where they were going. They were going to lunch so we decided to join them. We went to a place we hadn't been to yet called Besi. Most of us got pizza and were pretty impressed with the food, but not so much with the speedy service. Every other restaurant is extremely fast which is interesting because the people here is so laid back and are not in a hurry at all. The slow pace of life is one of my favorite things about this place. People just sit, eat, and talk for a long time. We then took a quick trip to Ben-af for some household items for the 5 month girls (Priscilla and Emily ---and Sam who will be here in a few weeks). Some of the team and the other leaders helped make the place homey today, while we sent the girls away for a while. They came back and started to feel more at home there! YAY! By this time, it was late afternoon and we had a debriefing session about how camp went and how we can take the things we learned back home. After our talk, we got to eat some delicious food at the hotel. Aryn and I then went on a run before it got too dark. The Lord of the Rings was the movie of the evening, but the 1 1/2 week people spent the time packing since they leave in the morning. While the movie and packing sessions were going on, Aryn, Katherine, Ann, Hannah, and I had a watermelon party. Other people came and exited the party, but we had some good conversations about the trip, future/college, and life in general. I've really enjoyed getting to know these students. Although I haven't gotten to know the 1 1/2 week students as much, I feel as if these students are going to go on and do amazing things in their lives. I will definitely miss them but it's our goal to be intentional and meet with them over the next year and in the years to come.

The new way to tell if something is awkward-- fly away

One more day for us. :(
