Our students had their first breakfast in Hotel Rozafa Friday morning. Albanians/Kosovars do not traditionally eat breakfast and the hotel goes over and beyond when we are here just to help us feel welcome.
The breakfast composed of boiled eggs, bread and Euro cream, omelets, and a hotdog looking thing that was sausage.
The saying has always been "The early bird gets the worm" and this is always true when it comes to cereal in Kosovo. Cereal is not common and is more expensive than the other breakfast foods we eat. I always choose to eat cereal though because I don't always like to start my morning off with lots of oil. Even though I got to breakfast early, when it got to be my turn my favorite cereal, Choco Puffs, were almost out so I mixed two different kinds. The milk is extra thick because all they have here is whole milk. Most of the time the milk isn't cold when you get it from the store which is also another difference.
After breakfast we headed to the bank to exchange money. We went in a few at a time so we didn't overwhelm them.
I guess Peyton (one of the three Peyton's) wanted everyone to see his mouth, or maybe he wanted to eat my phone!
Katelyn and Landry love waiting at the bank with their mother!
After our wait at the bank we took a short hike to the top of a hill to see the entire city.
This is Suhareka from the hill. This is where we get to spend 3 weeks!
Our 2013 Summer Camp team
If you were around last year, you will remember Cam's faces. Oh they've started again. It's our mission to get a few "good" ones of her this year, so stick around!
Chase loves his trip dad "Jer Bear" and loves posing for pictures!
While on the hill, we spent some time singing and playing. It was such a sweet time.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN (and the baby in her tummy)!!!!
After our hike, we spent the entire afternoon training for camp. It was a long afternoon but the students did great at staying awake.
We set the students out on their own to see how they would do eating without translators. That night a few of the leaders went to a new restaurant Shepati. The restaurant is located a little outside of town and off the main street, but it is probably my favorite place so far in Suhareka. It had SALAD!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe I've found a place with salad! The food was delicious and the scenery makes the place one even better!
I think I will eat here all the time when I need a break from pizza. I would even walk here in the rain, sleet, or snow just so I could enjoy this salad again!
