Easter Thoughts

Our pastor, Buddy, sends out "Buddy Mail" every Friday. It is a short letter about what he will be teaching Sunday.

This weeks Buddy mail says:

"Have you seen the news about Easter, this year? Have you noticed the overwhelming, relentless media attention that 'Resurrection Sunday' has received? Did you see the Presidential pics about what he believes will be the top ten Easter Celebrations this year?

"Did anyone notice the news crews hovering around "the Church of the Holy Sepulchre" in Jerusalem shouting, 'What's your predictions on how many will show up, world-wide, for worship this year?' 'How do you explain how a handful of weeping nobodies, coming to visit the tomb of a man slaughtered by the Romans, could have been transformed into a global movement eclipsing every other event by a magnitude that is beyond computation?'

"Most likely you missed the media attention, the investigative reporting, the headline news and the magazine covers. The reason you did not notice them is because there is a silence that is so deafening it is impossible not to notice.

"Is it possible that this event just slipped up on them? Not likely, because every time anyone places a date on their calendar, the number on that date is calibrated to the man whose life, death and resurrection stares them in the face. 'Did you notice it's 2011?' 2011 years from what? The Super Bowl? The World Cup? The founding of America?

"No! Sunday is Resurrection Sunday! 2011 years ago, God stepped into His creation and announced the New Creation!"

After the first paragraph, I was thinking man, I never watch t.v. is this really happening?! Although the rest of the world seems to ignore this event, facebook is covered with verses, scripture and beliefs. Well, maybe it's because I am friends with many Christians, but still. It was a "cave in" moment, but we can turn it into an "epic moment" and let it change our lives forever. Why don't we celebrate this fact daily? I'll be the first to admit I do not. I get stuck in the common moments of every day life and fail to remember Jesus' death, burial and resurrection is the reason I can live in true freedom.

We sing a song at our church with these lyrics:

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
But fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to Him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You've bled for us

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bowed to none but heaven's will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold You down
In strength You reign
Forever let Your church proclaim

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
The glory of God has defeated the night

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
Our God is not dead
He's alive! He's alive!

Christian lyrics - CHRIST HAS RISEN LYRICS - MATT MAHER

In all the busyness, let Jesus be the center of your attention. In our household, it's been a crazy week. Once we got back from Charleston, Jeremy has been on the go non-stop. He told me he was thankful for the weekend because he knew this week would be busy. He gets up early, goes to work (both churches) and works until the wee hours of the morning. He hasn't gotten much sleep all week. In addition, I have seen him a total of 30 minutes to an hour each day since Monday. Still in those moments we saw each other, his mind has been weary. Working for two churches around this time can only be hectic. Both go all out for holy week and/or Easter. Making videos and getting things ready have occupied all his thoughts. Although I wish I could help, all I can do is encourage. I feel helpless at times. Most people know teachers look forward to spring breaks and do not want them to end. However, this year, I am okay with it ending because Jeremy needs a "normal" week again, so do I. We continue to realize normal life is not what it used to be. Working for two churches is more than just a full time job. We are thankful for the opportunities Jeremy has right now, but it is wearing him down. We pray the videos and work he is doing will bring more people closer to the heart of God. When he can't make it to family gatherings because of work or we can't do things because of work, I must remind myself (not necessarily you), in all the busyness, let Jesus be the center of [my] attention in this season and always.
