We haven't ever taken a trip with another couple like this before. Although the four of us have talked about it we never could get it nailed down. This year we said we were going to do something even if it was just a few days. After narrowing it down to a few places, Jeremy realized my spring break lined up with the week leading up to Easter. Most people would say, "Okay, big deal." For someone who works at a church, nonetheless, two churches, this is a big deal. He said we weren't going to be able to go anymore. I got sad for a while, but thought just maybe we'd be able to go so I tried not to think too much about it. Jeremy worked it out so he could miss the Sunday before Easter, or Palm Sunday. In order to do so, he had to work extra hard last week to get things ready or people prepared to take over his job on Sunday and he has to work extra hard this week. In the end, he was thankful for a relaxing weekend before the craziness! During the weekend, he did get caught up in a few work related things, butit didn't take too much time out of the vacation.
Okay, back to the story. We got up Saturday morning after sleeping in and started to plan our day. We knew we wanted to go to the beach and we knew we wanted to walk around downtown. It was supposed to storm on Saturday, so we decided to get our walking in before the storm.
Saturday's adventures:
Jana and I sat in the back the entire trip. She took some dramamine so she was out most of the time on the way there and back! Here's us at the beginning of Saturday. Notice the hair is down and looks nice.
The guys sat in the front. Friday night, I sat behind Rob and Jana was behind Jeremy. It was funny to have the opposite guy open our door for us. We laughed about it, but then switched for the remainder of the trip.

We first went to lunch at a place called Long Point Grill. It was quite yummy and near the condo.

Afterwards, we drove into Charleston to see the downtown area. Oh, it never stormed, so we got a wonderful day of walking in.

This dog "goosed" me. We were just walking along and here comes this dog! The owner, a lady, felt so bad. We laughed about it and told her it was fine.

BFF- (oh we joked about getting airbrushed t-shirts labeled, "Spring Break 2011" that had us as stick figures with bikinis to wear for twin day, better yet tacky day). I'm sorry to say we did not go through with this. ;)
Jana had other plans... to sit on him.
We stopped at the battery to take some pictures of each other. Jana thought it was funny, so she took a picture of us taking a picture of them. Classic.

Jeremy got a call and was on the phone for a while, so we decided to have fun making faces...
....and finding weird trees to hide in....
...and looking at the trees...

...and taking pictures of random things... Oh, I guess this is a good time to show you our new camera. It's the one in the picture. Jeremy ordered it last week and the body/lense came in on Thursday & Friday- just in time for our trip. I am sure my blog will be filled with lots of creative, artsy pictures while Jeremy gets a feel for the camera. Feel free to go back to the beginning of the post and try to pick out the ones that are with my camera and the new one. It's a fun game, but not too hard.

While walking by this church, we heard someone talk about an unannounced tour of the church. We jumped right in and got to look inside. First off, notice how large the door is compared to Jeremy. We all know Jeremy's tall but not compared to the door.

This is the area where George Washington and some other historical figures sat. This church is the oldest in Charleston.

On our stroll around Charleston, we went to a candy shop. Jeremy spent most of his time taking pictures of the Double Bubble while we ate all the samples. People would walk by him and stare, it was kinda funny to watch the expressions and hear the inner thoughts as they saw him.

After our few miles around downtown we took the late afternoon to rest. Jana and I went to the pool by the condo, but there were lots of people there for a party and it was in the shade so we decided to go back to the condo.

That night, we decided to go to a restaurant Skaggs, the other PE teacher/track coach, told us about. These are some of the most random bumper stickers ever.

As you can tell, the place was a hole in the wall, but it was in New York Times, so we decided to try it out.

Jeremy had to pay $1.50 for a can of coke. It was a little pricy and the quality/quantity wasn't as expected. We weren't too impressed and wouldn't really recommend it. Although we (aside from Jeremy) could possibly attribute it to the high expectations we had going into it, we have definitely had better.

The hole in the wall had bathrooms outside the restaurant, "He" and "She" restrooms. It's hard to tell, but the door does say "she".

After dinner, we decided to go to a putt-putt place. The way there was probably the most memorable moment of the entire trip. Somehow we got on the subject of a game Jeremy and his friends used to play in high school. He decided to demonstrate the "chicken" game with Robert and was shocked with the results because Robert doesn't back down.
In our putt-putt game, Rob won, Jeremy got second, Jana got third, and I got forth. Now, I have never been extremely talented at putt-putt, but I have always gotten frustrated. I do really well and get a hole in one while on the next hole I do really poorly and get a really high number. Jeremy has to remind me my goal is to get a low score! :) I always give up and just keep hitting it until it finally goes in. I think my competitive nature really gets to me when I play this game. We did have lots of fun though.
You can see Rob thinking hard about this hole. He's probably thinking, "Where's the hole?" Our response, "In the middle. Same place it always is." Well unless you are me, I totally thought a pile of leaves was the hole one time and would have gotten a hole in one if it had of been! Oh well.

I can't tell if this was one of the moments I was happy or not! I ended up getting a headache at the end so maybe that played a part in why I lost by a few strokes!
Jeremy was the official score keeper. You can see the intense look on his face while holding the score card in his mouth.

On Sunday, we went to the Isle of Palms beach. It was only supposed to get up to 73 degrees, but we said why not! The beach was about 5-10 minutes from our condo, which was amazing. We ate some breakfast and headed out. Jana and I were a little distracted for the first hour (or more) while a lady around us talked to her friend. We kept getting drawn into her conversation about some guy pouring sweat at the gym, nearby restaurants, dancing, and who knows what else. There were so many moments we'd just turn to each other and smile/laugh. Jana was trying to read a Nicolas Sparks book, needless to say she had a hard time getting into it while there was this amazing conversationalist around to entertain. After a while, the two of us did take a stroll to the water to stick our feet in. However, it was a little cold and the wind was blowing so the chill bumps on our arms and legs drove us back to our towels pretty quickly.

We ate lunch outside at Banana Cabana. We waited about 15 minutes or more just sitting at our table before Rob went to find someone to take our drink and food order. A lady came a few minutes later. Although the service was not as great, the food was average.

We seemed to have yet another fun bathroom adventure. The bathroom in Banana Cabana had two toilets but no stall do divide the toilets. How strange. What is a person supposed to do other than wait outside?!
After lunch we decided to walk off our food and go into some of the shops. This is one of the birds that was inside one of the stores. We tried to get him to talk to us, but he was a little stubborn. I guess people expect him to talk all day when he has a limited vocabulary.

After lunch, we went back to the beach for a while. Jeremy saw that he was burning, so he said he was going to go find some shade. I looked around on the beach and asked him where that might be. We were there a while longer and then Jana felt like she was burning, so we decided to leave. On our way back towards the car, we spotted him. He found him some shade. It's a good thing our condo had a good book for him to read or he would have been extremely bored without having anyone around with which to talk.

We loved the sights around Charleston and Mt Pleasant. It's so serene. The buildings were not right on the street, they were hidden and things could be easily passed when driving if you didn't know exactly where to turn. We are thankful for our phones with GPS capability though because they helped us find every place we needed to find. One time Jeremy's got put on walking mode and it said something was a few miles away but would take us over an hour. We couldn't figure out why it would take us so long, so we decided to go that way anyway. It took us on all kinds of backstreets and we realized we were supposed to be walking!

After our day at the beach, we tried to find a good seafood place for dinner. We didn't start looking until late because we had a late lunch. By the time we started looking, everything was closed. We ended up eating at a Mellow Mushroom.
Monday Adventures:
Monday morning we got up and took our time getting ready before we headed home. We stopped at a Chili's for lunch. All in all, it was a wonderful trip. We laughed lots and would go on another trip with these two in a heartbeat! Who knows what the rest of my spring break will be like. I don't have any other plans other than to sleep late.
Cheers-to a great time.... It's hard to "raise your glass" when all you have is a jug of water.
