So this entry will be really random because I have so many things to write. Here are the lessons I have learned this week...(so far)
1. It is unnecessary to squat and pull up grass/weeds around a flower bed or in a flower bed---
"I've never seen anyone go through and hand-pick this much grass or this many weeds. I mean that's what edgers are for!" (Jeremy)..... Well I did that Saturday morning. Jeremy wanted to work in the yard because Maverick has pretty much destroyed our landscaping. I wanted to help, and Jeremy thought I was crazy. Well I certainly was excited because I woke up WAY TOO early for a normal Saturday. I couldn't start working though because I wanted to help Jeremy. I waited, and waited, and waited, and then I couldn't wait any longer. I had to wake him up. It was after 11:00 AM and he was still sleeping. Grass was growing all in the beds and around the stone so Jeremy gave me the task of picking out the grass from around the roses. He told me to leave the big patches of grass. Well, once I started pulling up grass, I couldn't stop. A few hours later I had pulled up all the grass on the outside of the stones too. Jeremy pressure-washed and we got the area looking really clean. Maverick was really confused though. He didn't know why we didn't want him in the mulch or on the porch until everything was done. We went inside after some hard work and the next time we went outside Maverick had already started to dig again. It's worthless! There's no point in fixing things up with an animal like Maverick..... However, the big thing I learned was edgers are a good way to get rid of unneeded grass and if I would take the advice my legs wouldn't be sore days after working in the yard and I wouldn't have ant bites on my hands. (It did allow me to relax though, so I'm okay with it!)
2. Stand up for what you believe in.
That reminds me of a VeggieTales song. I know this is nothing new, but sometimes it is forgotten when others have strong personalities. Yesterday I was able to go the a math meeting with many of the sixth grade math teachers in my county. We were there to make a common curriculum map for the county (The order to teach each of the things we are supposed to teach). Our school uses the map the state says to use. Why would anyone not use that? I mean if they spent the time in making a map, why not use it? They have incredible resources and it is a logical sequence of our curriculum. Well our school was the only one who was going in that order, and I got shot down when I said that is the order we should use. Instead we made a new map and reordered our whole year, needless to say we started school um 4 weeks ago. I mean really there isn't any way we can do this "new" map when we aren't on the same page as the other schools. The new map is fine, it's not that, it's just that why change things for us? I guess they just have to make sure we are all following something. Now we are going to come up with common assessments (tests). I am like WHAT?! I kept saying, "Well we do this..." I don't think the others liked that because they didn't talk to me too much. Oh well, I said whatever you guys want, and now am stuck with this curriculum map, but I'm not worrying about it because there's nothing I can do! It won't stop me from teaching-- just will stop the order I teach in....
3. Spirit week is more important than academics.
It's funny because our school is all about academics, but not this time of year apparently. Just kidding... but, no really. We were asked to make a banner for our homebase (like a homeroom). It is supposed to be a spirit banner. My homebase won last year, however, I haven't been too pumped about spending the time and energy in order to make one. Last year it took DAYS to come up with an idea and over a week to earn the money and actually make the banner. At our faculty meeting, we were told it wasn't an option. We had to make one. I halted the presentations that were supposed to happen today, moved my test to next week, and worked on banners all day in my class. I switched rooms with Mr. Gibbs, our science teacher. His room is so big compared to mine, I felt like I had to scream in order to get their attention. I was drained- first time this year.
4. People don't think I should be able to order off the kid's menu.
If you know me, I always clean my plate. I like to order small because then I won't eat way more than my body wants. Well, many restaurants are fine with me ordering off the kids menu, others aren't. Also, if you know me, you know I have a hard time making decisions. I never get to eat REAL breakfast food, and Jeremy doesn't care for breakfast suppers, but tonight we went to IHOP because Jeremy was fine with having breakfast food. Now I have probably been to IHOP a total of 3 times my entire life, but I was excited. Our waiter squashed my excitement though. I wanted a little bit of french toast and a pancake. I found the right things on the kid's menu, so I was going to order two of those small meals (I usually only do 1 kid's meal!-but I wanted both things). I mean the order added up to be $7.00, but the man said he'd have to add $1 to each of those meals if I wanted to get it.... $9.00... um no thanks! I decided to go with pancakes for $5.00. Then we didn't have silverware...Finally we got some... and I didn't have syrup... It was CRAZY!
5. Lots of clothes hanging from or on top of one shelf is not a wise idea.
I love clothes and I have a variety of clothes. This week I woke up and went to get my clothes for the day and noticed my shelf in the closet COLLAPSED! We always joke about our small closets. I have the one in our room and Jeremy has the one in the guest room. They cannot hold many clothes, so it's a good thing my parents live close! My clothes are still there too. The holder the shelf sits in came detached from the wall, therefore, my whole shelf fell. My pants, capris, and skirts have been trapped under the shelf. Other clothes fell off the top of the shelf and there have been a few "clothes-slides" this week. I find it a fun challenge to pick our my clothes without other clothes sliding down off the shelf. We went to Home Depot after our IHOP experience and bought parts to repair the shelf. My dad always complained about me putting too much on the shelves, well I guess I never learned! While we were in line the lady behind us kept inching her buggy forward trying to knock us out of line. It was really weird. Then she said, "I can't believe it's seven after 8!" RANDOM. Well the shelf has now been fixed so I better go hang up my clothes before they get wrinkled even more!

your yard looks great!
I hope your shelves here don't fall, and if you need some more stress relief, I have some grass you can pull.
