Sleighbell 5K

Jana and I have decided to do a race a month or at least 12 next year. Hopefully this will be the first blog of many fun races with her over the next year.

It was an early morning December 3rd. The night before we had a b-ball game and then I went to Athens for a birthday dinner for a friend. I got home late and had to get up early and drive to Athens for the Sleighbell 5k. It was a chilly morning and I was layered. Robert accompanied Jana and me to Sandy Creek for the race. He was the photographer of the morning. Jana and I were both exhausted and cold, but we got a little warmer after we ran around the parking lot. Our noses were running, but we got up the nerve to take off the fleece jackets and were ready to go.
One of our b-ball players met us and ran with us. We decided to stick together and we ran together the entire time, well until the last quarter of a mile. We left her.
I'm trying to get ready to run. People probably thought I was way too wired!
Yet again, who knows what I was doing other than getting ready to go!
There were lots of people running. We kept a pretty steady pace. We kept slowing down for K, but she did well for not running 3 miles since cross country season.
At the end, Jana told me to go ahead of her. She said we should alternate who wins each race.
Our times were pretty bad, but it was fun to run with K. (29.26)- I did better in my first 5K and all the times I run at the park or in the neighborhood. This was not our race to PR though! :)
