Week 3 was really good. We had some of our FAVORITE churches come and got to eat/hang out with them. We had about 730 students/adults. It went a lot more smoothly than week 2 with 11oo people. I finally got my voice back Sunday afternoon and was thankful to be able to talk again. I felt like I had more energy this week too, which made my life easier! Cindy and Steven Fruitticher came over from Ft. Walton to visit a few days. Brian and Lauren Bone also came. There were a few other additions and visitors through the week which made it fun to see people, however there were times it stressed me out. At one point there were 8-10 people in the admin. booth and I couldn't even move around. Kelli went in there and did a great job at getting them out by telling them that it was a work-place not a hang out place! Thanks Kel.
Highlight of the week: Monday I was the admin booth and I saw a man walking in. He had his headphones and had been riding his bike. People come into the convention center all the time off the beach so I have gotten to the point where I just let them be. They usually go to the bathroom, get some water, and then leave. This guy came up and asked if there was a program. I didn't really understand his question, so I then said, it was a camp.... He said, "I know, I'm the speaker!" WOOPS! This week's speaker was new and hadn't been with us before. I was so embarrassed. Oh well. I told him I was sorry probably about 10 times throughout the week.
Sad thoughts: The convention center will be demolished in March of next year, therefore the new building will not be ready in time for SuperWOW 2010. Instead, we will be meeting in tents (well they are called sprung tents. they will have concrete floors, with the old carpet form the convention center, and AC). That will make for an interesting change though--- our theme is BIG. (Big change, big tents). People kept reminding us this was the last time we'd do this and that during the week in the convention center. We know the ins and the outs of the building. We know where everything is and even know where secret bathrooms are. Next year will be quite different in a new place, but hopefully the same convention staff will be there. We've really gotten to know them over the years and have built some really cool relationships with them.
I determined I hit my breaking point and didn't really enjoy green room at the end of the week as I usually do. I just wanted to be done with cooking and washing dishes twice a day. I think that is really why I don't cook much during the year. I go so hard for three weeks and then I'm burned out. If we are asked back next year and do SuperWOW, maybe I'll be able to finally pass over that job. I just wasn't able let go this year- I kind of hold high expectations for myself. I wonder if it just became too much when I took on the admin. role. When I was the assistant admin. I didn't have so many duties. I mean I'd be okay doing it sometimes, but it's pretty stressful doing it all by yourself. I think my breaking point came from having to carry in the food every night and one of those nights I dropped something all over the parking lot. I shrugged it off, but it adds a lot of the job. (I just thought I'd be real/honest with ya!)
We had over 200 decisions and 80 salvations this summer. How cool is that? We got lots of comments on the curriculum and how applicable it was. Freedom is a hard topic to talk about, but there are so many things that we all learned from the summer!
A funny picture of the staff.

The ladies.

Our staff.

We thought this would be fun!

Another day of admin. matching! Good ol' marsh!

The lucky owner of our last set of fish. We ended up going through quite a few fish because the whole tank at Wal-Mart had "the Ick" and they were really sick. These fish made it though. Dr. White (Pres. of the GBC), put them in the clean water the last time I changed it. I felt bad, but he just stuck his hand in the bucket and put them in their bowl! The last day of camp, I kept saying, "FREE FISH, take them home as your youth group mascot!" This girl said she'd take them. She ended up being from Megan (a staff member's church)!

The ladies after Solterra.

I don't even know why we are making a spirit line.

Playing croquet at the Jekyll Club after dinner at Solterra.

The Kindig family... I love them so much! I don't know what kind of face Drew is making!

Of course we have to get a pic at the dock.

Our table again. Travis has the best facial expressions- he was Jeremy's video 2. He did a great job--- even if he did sleep late and miss the fun run week 1.

Last sunset.

Rah Bar from the dock.

Our table at dinner... well not actually because half of us left to go to Cafe Solterra for dinner and then came back to sit with the rest of the crew at the Rah Bar for the scenery.

This was Megan's first year on staff. She did an INCREDIBLE job and we had lots of fun together.

Erica, Savannah, Marsha, and I. We couldn't believe there would soon be good-byes. I love these ladies!

The end of the sunset at Jekyll the last night we were there.

To end the summer, Marsha, Cassi, Jeremy, and I went to eat at Johnny Carino's for dinner after load out. Then we went to Bruster's and met the Kindig family. After that we came back to our house and Travis joined us for a game of Catchphrase. It was a fun end to a great three weeks. I was so excited to sleep in my own bed again as well as sleep late!
Much love until next time- L
