Snowcation 2011

Talk of snow made Jeremy want to say there wasn't going to be any snow. We had so many instances growing up when the weathermen would say it was going to snow and it hardly happened. I remember staying up late quite a few nights and watching the news waiting for school to be cancelled. I'd finally go to bed and only occasionally wake up to my parents telling me I didn't have school. You see, Gwinnett didn't like to cancel school. Well, this past Sunday, January 9th it was a normal day and it didn't feel like it would snow. The weather wasn't too cold and the sky looked a little gray but nothing to out of the ordinary in January. We went to church and to eat Sunday night, and were surprised there wasn't even a hint of snow. Jeremy joked that he asked God to hold off on the snow until we got home. You see we had some company for the week and joking we'd have school made us a little upset. We were okay with a day off!

If you know us really well, you know we have a family we just love! The McBryar family loves the Kindigs. We first starting getting to know them more through SuperWOW. Scott was the camp director and was our "boss" for the past 6 summers. Then we started at church plant together, where Scott was the pastor. He even got to do our marriage counseling and be the pastor at our wedding because he means that much to us! We usually even go to eat with them after church on Sunday's to catch up. Through all of this, we have grown closer with the Kindigs. I can't remember if I've blogged about this or not, but Scott just took a job in Birmingham at a church. One of his sons just started college this year, another one got into a private school in Birmingham so he had to start this semester over there. The other two are still here with his wife while they try to sell the house. There is a lot of traveling back and forth since Scott and one son are in Birmingham during the week. Well this week was an unusual week for them. Kim is doing her masters and had to go up to Liberty for a class, so we had two of the Kindigs for the week while they were gone to Virginia. All this to say, we had some company during our snowcation. School was canceled ALL week, so needless to say we got to have lots of fun with the Diglets this week!

We got home we were just hanging out and I said I think I am going to check on the snow. I went to the door and saw the first flakes fall from the sky. I went to get my camera and was amazed at what I saw when I returned. Our deck was already covered and the snow was coming down fast! The kids were so excited and their school canceled not too much longer afterwards. Mine had canceled before the snow started because they are wise like that!
The next morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. Snow even came up on our front porch and covered the rocking chair!
Now we all know Maverick is a little hesitant when it comes to snow. He did much better in this snow than any of the snows in the past. He is too funny to watch when he is trying to run on the snow though.
All the grass in the backyard was covered.
We got about 6 1/2 -7ish inches of snow.
Siblings!
Our snow covered house.

The sign seems a little out of place doesn't it?! You can hardly see the road.
Our fireplace. Man the snow was piled high.
Maverick sitting in the snow. It's here you can tell it's deep.
Don't eat the yellow snow please! Maverick is a private dog and he takes forever to find the right spot to do his business. In the snow it's twice as long. I'm so glad he found this bush though!
Our house from the road.
The lady collected snow too.
The snow piled high on the road. A car made it through though.
Hm... I don't think we will be getting any mail for some time. You can't even see the numbers!
The top of the snow was covered in a layer of ice. Don't worry Nate, it's good for skating.
We took a walk to the pond at the front of the subdivision.
Mary Beth decided she would hop through the slush/ice. I caught her in midair. She had so much fun but her feet got wet really quickly.
On our walk
We made snowcream
trying to tie shoes with gloves
trying to make snow angels... it was definitely a challenge b/c of the layer of ice. We had to beat our hands, head, and feet down to break the ice. They didn't turn out very well either. Oh well. It was fun.
trying to do a little shoveling to get the driveway cleared and to make a snowman

We did attempt to make a snowman. The ice really made it difficult. We couldn't ball up the snow so our snowman was a lot smaller than expected.

Since we didn't have school all week, we played wii (30 party games), read (Lightning Thief & Approval Addiction), watched movies (Bounty Hunter & Monty Python), watched youtube videos (Mad tvs Dot), played games (computer games, scene it, & spoons), and relaxed! I ended up having to go back to work Thursday and Friday for half day teacher work days. It was good to get out of the house, but I really enjoyed my time not having to do anything! People on facebook were talking about how bored they were. The cabin fever was setting in for a lot of people. I think it's crazy that I didn't feel it one bit. I enjoyed every moment of the week.

Jeremy started working at Grace this week. Yes, he got a job with them. We are so excited. He loves it already. They have worked it out where he will go back and forth from Hebron to Grace a few days while the other days will solely be at one of the locations. He gets to do two different jobs relating with things he enjoys so he will have variety in his workweek. He has long hours on Sundays (6:45-1:00 and 4:30-7), but he loves the people and we love the church. We are excited about the people we will meet through him working there.

For me, this week will be hard though trying to get back into the swing of things. I don't think I will have forgotten how to teach, but I know the students will have forgotten what we were learning. I started the current unit before Christmas break. Then I had to stop to review for the final and for the break. We came back for two days and started again and now had a week long break. I'm about to give up and move on because we are going to cut it close to CRCT if we don't get moving! :)
