January Jubilee

Snow

It's been so cold that we have had a new member residing in our house... Maverick. Last year he got mad at us for putting him inside. He came in two nights and then would run in his house whenever we offered for him to come inside. We kept him in the laundry room because we didn't want him running all over the house (he was stinky). Well, now this year he was reluctant to come in at first, but now he loves coming in. The first night we brought him in, Jeremy gave him a bath. Maverick jumped out of the tub and started shaking. Oh, you should have heard Jeremy in the bathroom! Everything was wet! The first night he just stayed in one spot and didn't really want to move around. The next night he got a little more confident. The third night it was like he ruled the house! He loves to follow us around the house and come in and out as we go in and out too. Sometimes he would sleep at the foot of my side of the bed. When the alarm would go off, he would stand up and start smelling my face. Sometimes he would get these shaking fits and walk a few steps and shake his body then go a few steps more and do it again. He did this over and over. It was hilarious. One night, he fell asleep in the living room while we were watching a movie and Jeremy saw him kicking the air. He must have been having a dream.

Academic Bowl Competition

Our competition was supposed to be last weekend. It snowed Thursday night and school was cancelled Friday so the competition was also cancelled. I was okay with that though! I like sleeping late on Saturday's and getting out in the cold does not appeal to me one bit. All our students were able to make it on Saturday, so that was great! I was afraid the rescheduling would be an issue. We got to play in 7 rounds. We did better this year than ever before. Although we only won one round, we were really close in every game. The kids seemed much more confident and ready. The only thing they said would help them would be if we could get our own buzzer system. They cost between $200-$300 I think and our school is unable to purchase them. When we go to competitions, the kids always comment on not being fast with the buzzer. Maybe we can get a system soon! I will really miss my 8th grade students next year. They are our really strong players! I've really worked with them since 6th grade. Hopefully some other students will move into the lead roles.

Birthdays/Births

We celebrated Corrine and Terren's birthday last Sunday. They are getting so big! They were hilarious as they opened their gifts.

The day we celebrated their birthday was Kate's 1st birthday (my teammate's daughter). We actually got to celebrate her birthday the previous day. Jeremy used his HD camera he got for Christmas at the party. He taped Kate getting messy with the cake and made a short movie for them. Also, on that day Katherine and Josh's little girl, Haven Kate was born. Instead of visiting them at the hospital we decided to go see them at their house and help them with things. I had a long weekend this weekend so it was PERFECT. She is adorable! She loves her aunt Laura.
