Some things I have learned this week/weekend-
1. 9 year olds have a lot of energy, so do 6th graders.
2. 9 year olds love food and like to snack, so do 6th graders.
3. 9 year olds like to stay up late, so do my 6th graders (even on a school night).
4. 9 year olds love to be outside, so do 6th graders.
5. 9 year olds can make messes and clean them up, so can 6th graders.
6. 9 year olds can entertain themselves, so can 6th graders.
7. 9 year olds like to sing, so do my 6th graders.
8. 9 year olds care about how they look, 6th graders care about how they look and smell.
9. 9 year olds like to laugh, so do 6th graders.
10. 9 year olds love games, so do 6th graders.
11. 9 year olds have fears (woods & dogs), so do 6th graders they just might be of different things.
12. 9 year olds like people to spend time with them, so do 6th graders.
Although I have known things like this, they are reiterated this week because of my schedule. This week we started an after school program (Blue Team Cats) for our team. We invited some students we thought might benefit from some extra practice time before the CRCT. Much of the things I know about 6th graders, I have discovered being with them on a daily basis, but our little after school club makes me know them to an even greater degree. At the club this week, we had so much fun. The kids were like why aren't you like that in class... Well, to be honest I can't be crazy in class because they'd be so wild all the time. In a small group anyone can be themselves. Those are my 6th graders and they are SOOOO motivated by candy/food... This weekend, Hannah, my cousin stayed with us, she's nine. My mom and aunt Martha went to another BOW (Becoming an Outdoor Woman) weekend in Alabama, so Hannah got to spend some time with us. YAY! We invited Aiden over to spend the night on Friday so they could have some fun together. I don't think I'm with 9 year olds for an extended period of time much, so I was thinking about how they might be a little different. I ended up focusing on how alike they are. In the end, I realized how much we are like 9 and 11/12 year olds too. Sometimes the criteria changes a little but we are like them to an extent. Yes, we may have better communication skills/talk about different things or have a job, but we have some of the same tendencies. Thank you Martha for letting us spend time with Hannah! Thanks Daphne for letting Aiden come over and for letting us spend time with her!
In our little cottage we had 4 people spend the night (for the first time since we've been married). The only other time multiple people spent the night was the night before our wedding when all the groomsmen stayed here. I love the cottage, but there would be no way 3 or even 4 people could live here comfortably. The walls are thin so you know what everyone is doing and saying at all times. The closets join so there's no way of really getting away from the other people! You can't really play hide and go seek because there aren't that many hiding places IN the house. In addition, there is only ONE bathroom, so you just hope you never have to go to the bathroom when someone else is going, or you have to hold it... or go outside in the woods! We love every moment here, but I don't know how comfortable it would be if there were extra people.
While the girls and I played, Jeremy helped Andy (uncle) tear down a fence in the pasture so the goats have a larger place to roam. It was a beautiful day to play outside so most of our day (Saturday) was spent outside. We all commented on how pretty it was and wished the weather would stay like this! Today (Sunday) we were outside a lot again. Jeremy, Andy, and Jeff made a little rain drain trench thing to keep water away from the house. They did a lot of work in the amount of time they were out there. It looks great, now we will just wait for it to rain.
We also had our little time change this weekend, maybe I can adjust and get up in the mornings without wanting to sleep. As you all know, I am a wimp when it comes to winter. I want to sleep late and go to bed early. I also don't want to be in the cold. Because I'm so cold-natured, I like to always be wrapped in a blanket. I just heard of this new think that is a blanket with arms. I really might have to get one! Jeremy thinks I am turning him over to being cold. He usually wears short sleeves all through the winter, but I have heard him comment multiple times how he is cold. Uh oh... Will we soon become two people that are CONSTANTLY cold? What will become of us?!
