If you are a Captured Echos/Life blog follower, you know I once talked about our trip out West this summer. Well we didn't get to do it because the campsites filled up way too quickly. We were pretty sad about not getting to go somewhere with Evan and Morgan, but we are still tentatively planning to go on that trip next summer. Since we had already decided to do something, Jeremy started talking to Amanda and Randy about doing something. We recently hung out with them and little Jonah and talked about a possible trip somewhere for a few days. Everything worked out perfectly and everyone was able to take off work to go. Jeremy found a place on Amelia Island to stay. None of us had been to Amelia before, and now that we are back I know we will be making more trips there. It was a nice, quiet beach. There were lots of good restaurants too and we didn't feel like it was overly touristy. I'd definitely recommend it.
Here are the chronicles of our trip:
Day 1/2: Drive (Wednesday, July 20)
I had a grade level coordinators (GLC) meeting at school during the day, so afterwards, I went to lunch with Amber, at Chick-fil-a, and then headed home to pack. It took a few hours to pack all our stuff up. Jeremy got home about 3 something and we loaded up and left about 4. The trip started and we were already running a tad bit behind. Of course we would get stuck in traffic going all the way across town to Paulding, near Marietta. To make a really long story short. We didn't end up leaving the Evanses house until 8 because Amanda had to take Jonah to the doctor. The day care said he had some bad poops during the day. It ended up being the 2 ounces of blueberries he ate that morning. We didn't want to leave and something be wrong with him though. The precautions were definitely something for which we didn't mind waiting. Infants do require lots of stuff when going on a trip too! Jonah had more stuff than Jeremy and I combined. Randy is a master packer though and did an excellent job packing the car where he could see out the back. On our way out of town, we picked up some Chick-fil-a. Yes, that was my second time at Chick-fil-a for the day! Jonah went right to sleep, which was why we wanted to leave later. During the trip I dozed in and out while we watched/listened to Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan. They are comedians we both enjoy and quote. We got in about 3:30ish and were pretty delirious at that point. Even the gatekeeper probably thought we were psycho.
Day 1: Lazy day (Thursday, July 21)
Since we got in so late, we took it easy our first day. We ate lunch at 29 South, a fancy local restaurant. Amanda and I had a panini and Jeremy and Randy had lobster mac and cheese. The food was delicious and the chef even asked how we liked it. After lunch, we took a car tour of the island, went to the grocery store (Harris Teeter), and then spent the afternoon at the pool. When we first arrived on the island we commented on the Harris Teeter so every time we passed by it, Amanda and I would say something like, "Did you know there's a Harris Teeter?" or somehow weave the name Harris Teeter into conversation! We'd laugh and laugh.
Our condo was in the plantation and right on the fairway. It was nice and spacious. We had a pool pretty close to our condo and walked there every day for a swim. After our swim, we headed to dinner at an Italian restaurant, called Ciao, in a strip shopping center. It was a FANCY place, but it was good. They had some really good bread and dip for starters. Jeremy had some lasagna and I had chicken parm. Jeremy was halfway in charge of our restaurants and he did a really good job at picking places to go. Afterwards we went to get gelato near the plantation. They actually closed about 8 minutes before we got there but they still let us get some. It was pretty good too and a nice way to end the day. I got cookies and cream. We didn't make it home before we saw some more wildlife, raccoons. We had already seen a mouse, roach, and (dead) lizard in our condo. It apparently was so good the animals liked it too! It was hilarious watching Randy and Jeremy chase after the mouse. I was standing on the couch as they tried to capture him inside a trash can. He was fast though and didn't want to be caught. They definitely scared him away and we never saw him again. We even saw a GIANT woodpecker on the way to the pool.

I decided to do a cartwheel on the fairway. Watch me go.

I probably said something funny to Jeremy and he thought he needed to attack me! Don't worry, I'm sure I won!

I love this one of Amanda. She forgot her contacts at home but an optometrist on the island was able to get her a trial pair of contacts for the rest of the week/weekend.

We ate a bowl of cereal and headed to the beach. Most of our early morning into the afternoon was spent at the beach. The beach was pretty empty where we went and this was the long boardwalk we got to go down. Jeremy loved the fact there were very few people there, but it didn't make him love the sand any more. He did have an okay time though.
Jonah's too cute! He did a great job on this trip. He's also a really good baby. You can't even really hear him cry when he's crying because it's more like a whimper. He did get a little cough during our trip so he was a little sad at times, but other than that he was great!

Jeremy and I played and played in the ocean. He took the go pro and we had lots of fun wave jumping. I'm excited for him to make a little movie of the water fun! (We are definitely thankful for Jeremy's water shoes! I haven't ever gotten to play in the ocean like this with Jeremy. We had lots of fun!) Around lunchtime we headed back, ate a sandwich, relaxed, read, and went to the pool.
There is a Barbara Jean's on Amelia. This is one of our loves. Wit such delicious food so close, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to go eat some pumpkin bread, she crab soup, and crab cakes. I did miss the chocolate stuff though, I didn't order any.

We got up pretty early and headed to breakfast at the Parkway Grill. After I ordered a breakfast plate (eggs, sausage, biscuit, and pancake), I realized I really just wanted an egg biscuit, so Jeremy and I switched meals since that's what he got. I'm so glad he's so flexible!
By the way, I just wanted to say I love it that we have our new digital camera. I feel as if we get many more pictures now that we have it. Jeremy loves taking pictures. You will notice he's not in many of them, unless they are from my small camera, but it's also fun to watch his artistic ability. I apologize for there being so many pictures of me. :)

We loved this hole. We were on the top of the fort looking down. Jeremy went down to the lower level to look up at us.

After the fort, we headed back to the house for a sandwich. We then spent some time at the pool to cool off after the warm morning at the fort.
That night we went to a place called Pablos. We were going to eat at a pizza place, but it was a little sketchy. Pablos had the BEST quesadillas I've ever had. I mean I am a quesadilla connoisseur and so when I say they were the best they were. They put some seasoning on the chicken which made it excellent. They also had the right amount of cheese and chicken to make it perfect. Jeremy doesn't even care for Mexican food and he loved his shrimp quesadilla. I was VERY impressed. Now every one I have from now on will compare to theirs. We got to sit outside and hear some live music while there. Although we weren't too impressed with the music, we were entertained by those who were so into the music or who were too inebriated to know whether it was good or not.
I loved this building's color so I BEGGED Jeremy to take a picture. Ha. No, he didn't even have to be asked. I just said, "Oh, I love the color of the building. It would be good for a picture." Jeremy knows me too well, because that does mean, "Can we get a picture" in Laura speak.
After our amazing dinner, we headed back to take some pictures. We didn't get too far down the road before we had to stop. Randy pulled over on the side of the road to get some pictures of the sunset over the airport. As we were stopped, a plane took off. It was beginning to be the perfect end to a great day.
Evans family- Jonah spit up all over his cute shirt he was going to wear and then wet through his pants, so this was his backup outfit. He is still darling!

Jeremy and I had a time trying to figure out how to pose. We always end up doing the same thing so we were just being funny about standing like this. He's looking at me like I'm crazy.

This is his favorite pose. You can see I'm a little disturbed.
He's trying to get me so I make a weird face. I guess that's what you get if you marry a sixth grade teacher. The teacher turns into her odd 6th graders at times.

Day 4: Trip Home (Sunday- July 24)

After packing our stuff in the morning, we left Amelia before our 11 checkout and head up 95. Right before heading out of the parking place, Randy asked, "Did you ever figure out what kind of tree that was?" We looked at it one more time and realized it had oranges all at the top of it. They were all gone from the bottom branches so Jeremy jumped up and grabbed a limb and got some to take home.
Our trip couldn't have been complete without a trip to Jekyll. I mean we were so close anyway, why not stop?! Of course we took the Evanses to The Rah Bar on Jekyll. Although there were quite a few gnats and flies, there was a slight breeze most of lunch so we weren't extremely hot.
The trip continued and we stopped two more times to change Jonah's diaper and to get gas. I went in the gas station both times and had some of the worst bathroom experiences EVER. These bathrooms stunk and were pretty dirty. One lady started complaining and cursing at the same time when she walking in the restroom. This trip was definitely one adventure after another!
