It's kind of sad.
I decided to pack our books first. That was a mistake! It's a game to fill the box and every corner to the brim, but then I wanted to have nice neat stacks of boxes because I am a little OCD! Since I like to have things nice and orderly I kept stacking the huge boxes on top of the others, but I definitely hurt my back as I was picking them up. I reminded myself it was okay because I was going to Dr. Rod the following day. Jeremy came home later that evening and helped me. Although he left some of the boxes in the living room. I explained they needed to go in the back room because it was like we were moving. He laughed and said, "Laura, we are moving!" I'm getting used to all the boxes in the living room because the back room is a little full. The following day Dr. Rod kept commenting on how tight my back was and kept stretching me out. He told me to take it easy on picking up things.
At this point in the game, I have all the books, pictures, decorative pieces, dvds, picture albums/scrapbooks, candles, linens, and all of Jeremy's tapes/electronics/accessories in boxes and labeled. The next big task is the kitchen. Jeremy told me to leave it alone, so I am. I have to stand up in chairs to get things down so he said he'd get everything down. We can't have me falling off anything right now!
The big day is Monday at 10:00. This is when we close. I'm super thankful for my custodians. They have been wonderful to gather boxes for me. I'm also thankful for Daphne and Stacy and their willingness to help. Daphne agreed to clean the house. Stacy is doing some little touch up work. Other family members and friends have agreed to help with the actual move. When Cindy and Jeff get back from their cruise, Cindy wants to help in the yard. She has been looking forward to the yard for a while! I'm also super thankful for my Bible studies girls who have been praying about a house for months. We've been really encouraged by people wanting to help. We've also been really encouraged by the people around us expressing their excitement. Brooke, my chiropractor's receptionist, is more excited than I could have even imagined. She even wanted to come to the closing with us! We don't have much longer here in the cottage.
We sighed a lot this weekend and thought about how it would be our last drive home from ____. We are thankful for the time here but are excited about the coming days, months, and years. When I asked about Jeremy's favorite thing about the cottage he said his favorite thing is the closeness. He said his favorite moment was seeing me come home from my New York trip to see his landscaping project (meant as a surprise for me). He said he'd also remember the small closets! Yes, I will remember that too. My favorite thing thing about the cottage according to Jeremy is him. :) I love the closeness too. I have felt that it has helped us grow even closer together. We always joke about not realizing the other one is home when we are in the new house because it's so big! You know I don't do well will favorites, so I don't know my favorite memory. There are so many.
Things to remember:
*Maverick loves to bring us recycling, squirrels, and decorations from Andy and Tami's porch. He also loves to bark at deer and animals in the woods and howl at sirens.
*We can yell across the pasture to talk to Cindy and Jeff or up the hill to talk to Andy and Tami.
*The rain liked to FLOOD the front porch and one time it was so high it was up to the door. We remedied that by quite a few drain systems on the house and around the yard.
*We are in the shade and I stay cold so I sit in front of the heaters to get warm.
*We don't have a dresser because there's no room. Some of our clothes are in bins under the bed! Don't worry, we are investing in a dresser now!
*We woke up one night to a loud noise. I asked if the house was on fire. A tree had fallen right by our window.
*It snowed this year and we walked up and down the street and then went to my parent's house to stay because we were afraid we'd lose power.
*Insects/spiders/millipedes. There is a lizard Jeremy has kept around to eat the insects. (I just saw him for the first time today). We love the bug man! He loves to spray down here.
*The leaves in the fall are spectacular. Andy gathers them up on a tarp and drags them away into the woods.
*We love the ability to call our wonderful landlord (and Jeremy's uncle) and it gets fixed rather quickly! (like the pipe that caused our kitchen floor to start getting wet or the pipe off the hot water heater)
*The ability to be so close to our parents if we needed anything or just wanted to go for a quick visit. It didn't have to be a planned trip.
*Jeremy landscaping around the house to make me feel at home.
Although I was nervous about living here at first, I am so glad we did. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I will definitely miss it here. We all have weaknesses and mine is change. I don't do well with it. Since this whole house thing has happened fast, I haven't had too much time to think about what it will mean. It is hitting me more and more though as it becomes a reality. I will probably cry this week, but I am also extremely excited about the new chapter in our lives as homeowners. All of this time here is for a reason. We have loved it, but we know the door is closing on our time here and a new one is opening. We are anticipating all the things the Lord has in store for us here in the new house. He has been in this whole house thing. Everything has fallen in place PERFECTLY and we couldn't have done it.
"Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
