February Snow on a Perfect Four Day Weekend

Friday was a furlough day for us, so the entire day was an adventure. I got up way too early, but I had no clue what was in store for the day. I heard it "might" snow. Well, I was glad we were off of school because the kids go crazy if they know it's going to snow!

Jeremy and I went to Maggiano's for lunch. Even though we don't really celebrate Valentine's day, it was a nice little treat! We enjoyed some kind of crab and shrimp fondue, lasagna (jeremy), chicken parmesan (laura), tiramisu (jeremy), and an apple crostada (Laura). We were going to go to the GBC for a while after that, but we got there and it was closed. Jeremy laughed because it wasn't even snowing. Then the snow started. He again laughed and said, "This is a wimpy snow!" He said, "It's not even sticking or getting the car wet." I told him it would. We got home and opened the blinds a little bit later to a white covering over the grass. You couldn't even see it. He continued to call it wimpy even though he knew it was quite a bit of snow. Jeremy made plans to go over to Scott's to do a SuperWOW promo- summer/beach camp promo in the snow, but we didn't even make it there. We got out onto the road and realized the roads were pretty bad. We didn't even make it past my parent's house and realized we might not make it to Snellville. Instead, we decided to go up to my parent's house. We pulled into the driveway and the car kicked into the extra traction/snow-mode. It didn't help going up the hill and we only made it a foot up the driveway. We backed out and tried to go back to the house and decided to drive on the road a little bit. As we went around the curve past our house we saw a car in the road with people beside it. Jeremy asked, "Did you get stuck." The man said, "No, this lady fell in the ditch." That's when we saw a car in the ditch. Her kids were in the back of the man's car getting warm. We had to back all the way back to Cindy's house because there wasn't anywhere to turn around that we wouldn't get stuck.

We went back to the house and packed an overnight bag because we didn't know if the power would go out. We'd rather be at a house with a fire place if the power went out. Once we dressed warmly, packed our clothes, and packed our computers we made a nice trek to my parent's house. It never seems like a long way to walk, but it sure felt extra long in the cold, snow! I was exhausted by the time we got there. I laughed a few times on our walk imagining what we must look like. We had all kinds of gear on and were carrying all kinds of stuff as we walked alongside the road in the snow... oh and it was still snowing. On our way we saw another car in the ditch and a man stopped in the road to help take the other man home (the one that stopped was one of the camera operators at Hebron). We chatted a minute and kept going. Other cars passed us and asked us if we needed a ride. It's funny- people's kind hearts really come out in times like these. We kept walking and finally made it! The snow was about 5 inches by this time. I had been intaking so much cold air that I started coughing extremely bad when I got inside the Rent's house.

We warmed up, ate some dinner, and watched the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics before it was time for bed.

Here are some pictures of our weekend.

Friday...

Saturday morning after the big snow, we enjoyed a little time of relaxation at my parent's house and then decided to trek home. These are the sights on the way home.

The Rent's mailbox

Good ol' Ewing Chapel- a 4-Runner is in the ditch on the right and then right around the curve is a car on the left side.

Jeremy posing in the road. He said the road would be better to walk on. I didn't take his advice. I thought the fluffy snow would be better since he had already lost traction a few times going down the Rent's driveway.

Look at that snow!

Yep- I caught him right in the act of throwing a snowball at me. (Yes he does have his turtle pack on... you know his computer goes everywhere with him!)

Maverick was so glad to see his daddy

Is that Lug under there?

I love these trees in the pasture.

I wanted to take a little hike in the woods. Jeremy didn't want to risk falling. He said we should have taken my parents up on the offer to borrow the walking sticks.

Maverick loved getting a bone. He ran out in the driveway and started eating it!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures of the snow!

You guys that keep up with our blog know we aren't home bodies. We like to get out during the weekend, so this weekend has felt extra long. I keep looking at the clock and it is still in the same hour! However, I have been very productive. I've gotten all kinds of things done for school this week and even finished my paper for grad school. I'm a little ahead of the schedule. Maybe that will be a good way to start this week!

We aren't the type to run out to the store and get things, but it would be nice if we had one more scoop full of laundry detergent to wash that LAST load of clothes!

We'd love to hear your snow adventures too!
